However, heading into the afternoon slow warming will take place with high pressure moving over Florida. Highs are expected to reach the low 70’s.

By the weekend, as high pressure continues to slide East, it opens up the avenue for another front to move in. Saturday will start off chilly, but will finish in the upper 70’s. This will set the stage for above average temperatures on Sunday with a front moving in. Ahead and along the front, we will add a shower chance until it clears with no significant cooling. Temperatures should be typical and comfortable for the first full week of 2026.

Have a wonderful day South Florida and make it a safe one!

COLD START TO 2026 https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/cold-start-to-2026/ Thu, 01 Jan 2026 13:47:14 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1655996 Portions of Broward and Miami-Dade woke up in upper 30’s!

Cold area of high located over the Gulf coast states will dominate through early Saturday with slow changes.

It will slide East helping temperatures turn milder in the upper 70’s during the day on Saturday.

This will open up an avenue for a weaker front to move in on Sunday and maybe produce a stray shower. However, it won’t be as strong as the last front and help temperatures be on the comfortable for the first full week of the year.

Have a wonderful day South Florida and make it a safe one!

Chilly to end the year https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/chilly-to-end-the-year/ Wed, 31 Dec 2025 12:44:20 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1655746 A strong cold front crossed through yesterday and now South Florida is experiencing the coldest air so far this season. Temperatures have dropped down into the widespread 40’s for mainland South Florida and the last time it happened was on January 25th (339 days ago).

Look for plenty of sunshine with highs only reaching the mid to upper 60’s!

High pressure will dominate over the Gulf coast states through the end of the week keeping a North-Northwest wind in place. Therefore, we will be sporting the extra layer or two through early Saturday. Temperatures slowly moderate over the weekend as another weak front crosses through Sunday. Dry air seems to stick around well into next week.

On Record Watch https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/on-record-watch-5/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 13:40:15 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1652713 South Florida a storm system is moving into the Eastern U.S. and the leading edge is entering into Florida. This is helping winds come out of the South-Southwest and ramping up temperatures today into the mid 80’s. Some records will be in jeopardy!

The front could produce some spotty showers today, but our main focus will be temperatures until it crosses through early Saturday. Expect a nice weekend overall with maybe a passing shower at best. Temperatures will still be above average and feeling more comfortable with lower humidity.

Conditions will be generally quiet through the holiday with a stronger breeze setting up shop along the coast. Enjoy!

WARMING UP https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/warming-up-4/ Thu, 18 Dec 2025 14:00:01 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1652249 A front will be slowly moving across the U.S. and it will bring some changes into the weekend. Look for clouds to be on the increase with winds veering out of the Southeast. A few showers possible, but it should be mainly dry with highs in the lower 80’s.

By Friday, the front makes it across the Southeast U.S. and that will help winds turn from the Gulf and help temperatures get close to records in the mid 80’s. We are expecting it to cross through early Saturday and just drop down humidity levels just a bit. Temperatures will stay above.

Warming Winds https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/warming-winds-3/ Wed, 17 Dec 2025 12:39:06 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1651779 South Florida Florida look for a lighter breeze with improving conditions around our local waters. There will be periods of sunshine with seasonable temperatures in the upper 70’s. Outside of a passing sprinkle, it should be mainly dry.

High pressure will be breaking down heading into Thursday opening up the avenue for another front to move into the Central Florida. Winds will turn out of the South-Southwest helping temperatures climb above average to close out the week. However, will we see rain and cooler air?

Best chance of seeing showers is late Thursday into early Friday with increasing cloud coverage. The front crosses through slowly on Saturday with no cooler air behind. Humidity levels do drop and that should make for a fantastic weekend.

Have a wonderful day South Florida and make it a safe one!

Coastal Concerns- Windy Conditions https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/coastal-concerns-windy-conditions/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 13:13:02 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1650789 South Florida a front came through last night and with it located to the South and high pressure building in across the mid-Atlantic region, it is funneling in stronger winds, clouds and some showers. The chance of seeing brief showers and an isolated storm on this Monday is possible through the afternoon hours.

A Wind Advisory will be in effect for Coastal Broward and Miami-Dade through tonight with occasional gusts up to 35 mph. This can toss unsecured loose objects like Christmas decorations. Also, it could making driving difficult if you have a high profile vehicle, so drive with extra caution.

The wind will also produce large breaking waves in Coastal Palm Beach and Broward of 1 to 10 feet expected in the surf zone. A high rip current risk will be present through at least Thursday as winds begin to subside gradually.

At least conditions will be drier by Tuesday and it seems like most of the week will feature mainly dry conditions with temperatures climbing to above average values. Another front could move in on Friday. Will there be any significant cooling with that one? Right now, models are not calling for sweater kind of temperatures, but the weekend looks good.

Have a wonderful day South Florida and make it a safe one!

Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest President and CEO previews upcoming boat parade for 7News https://wsvn.com/entertainment/seminole-hard-rock-winterfest-president-and-ceo-previews-upcoming-boat-parade-for-7news/ Fri, 12 Dec 2025 21:26:18 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1650337 The start of the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade is right around the corner and it promises to go big this year.

“The Greatest Show on H2O” will take place Saturday, Dec. 13 and will feature 12 miles of exciting holiday fun.

2025’s Grand Marshal will be Romero Brito and singer Montel Jordan.

7News’ Vivian Gonzalez was along the parade route outside the Riverside Hotel on Las Olas on Friday morning, where she spoke to the President and CEO of Winterfest Lisa Scott-Founds for a sneak peak at what to expect. Here’s the conversation:

Vivian Gonzalez: “Now Lisa tell us what are going to be some of the wow boats that we’re going to be seeing tomorrow night?

Lisa Scott-Founds: “Well, obviously, we’re starting with our fireworks that are going to be presented by GEICO. And we’ve got a magnificent Grand Marshal showboat featuring Romero Brito and Montel Jordan. And as a matter of fact, about the Grand Marshal showboat by Fifth Third, it is featuring Romero Brito’s artwork because he did our poster this year. So it’s going to be absolutely magnificent. And We have an EDM this year we’ve never done before and I just learned what EDM is, electric dance music for all you youngers. And then we have got a motorcycle experience in a floating cage the entire 12 miles. We have fire dancers on board. We have got a junk and new band. There are so many things this year that we’ve never been doing. I mean, we haven’t been doing what you haven’t done. It’s just going to be like a one-off parade and the weather is going to cooperate. And at the very end, you know, this is our 54th year for Winterfest. So we are culminating with a huge grand finale by Visit Lauderdale featuring Studio 54. And we’ve got dancers and aerial acts. So everybody’s going to want to stay to the very end, usually at Santa Claus. But Santa, he flew in a little early from the North Pole, by the way. So he is coming and going to be right at the very beginning of the parade, which, by the way, starts at 6:00 p.m., opposed to 6:30.”

Vivian Gonzalez: “And can you tell us where can we track Santa? Like how can we track Santa the night of the parade?”

Lisa Scott-Founds: “So if you go to winterfestparade.com, there’s information there. But we do have a Winterfest app that everybody should plug into. And you can find out all the details and vote for your favorite boats. There’s so much information on our app. So I think everybody should just plug into it for sure.”

Vivian Gonzalez: “Also, what celebrities can we see along the parade route?”

Lisa Scott-Founds: “Right, so besides our Grand Marshals, we’ve got Miss Florida USA, we have Miss Teen Florida USA, and on the entertainment side, Ryan Cabrera and Chris Kirkpatrick from NSYNC will be on a boat as well.

Vivian Gonzalez: “And can you talk to us about the FPL Junior Captain this year?”

Lisa Scott-Founds: “That’s such a beautiful story. Our Junior Captain, which a boat is typically behind us, but you’ll see it on the waterway tomorrow, two men in a truck and FPL. Do a program throughout Broward County celebrating a child between the ages of 7 and 16 and they become our junior captain and then we have the other children that were nominees on board the Amazon Santa boat so there’s something for everybody with the kids.

Vivian Gonzalez: “And are tickets still available?”

Lisa Scott-Founds: “So we have tickets available and we have a special code which I’ll give you but at the Nicklaus Children’s Health System we have a parade viewing area. On Los Olos and the Intercoastal, it is front row seats. The weather is going to be perfect and there are seating. I mean, they’re perfect seats, nice and comfortable. But NICKLAUS 25, all in caps, for $5 off code. Yes. We’re so excited. It’s going to be an absolutely phenomenal parade and everybody needs to come out and see it. And we’re so grateful. WSVN, ABC Miami, and of course, Seminole Hard Rock. I’m our partner for 23 years.”

Vivian Gonzalez: “It’s going to be an amazing night. Thank you so much, Lisa.”

Like Scott-Founds said, there are going to be so many boats, mega yachts, beautifully decorated all around on Saturday night and Winterfest is just a wonderful time to be able to celebrate with family and friends the holidays here, South Florida style.

Santa will also be making an early appearance in the parade Saturday night, aboard the Jungle Queen.

And you’ll also be able to track Santa the night of the parade if you download the Winterfest app sponsored by Visit Lauderdale.

If you can’t watch the parade in person you’ll be able to catch it on WSVN and ABC Miami on the following days and times:

  • WSVN:
  • FRIDAY, 12/19/25 7:00-8:00P.M.
  • THURSDAY, 12/25/25 5:00-6:00A.M.

  • ABC MIAMI:
  • THURSDAY, 12/25/25 5:00-6:00A.M.

Warmer & Not As Wet https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/warmer-not-as-wet/ Mon, 01 Dec 2025 13:38:23 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1646772 Hoping everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and now it is back to work and school. The new week is starting off with more sunshine and drier conditions. Outside of a few showers along the coast, it is looking great. By Tuesday, a low pressure area travels Northeast and front enters Florida. This will help winds turn out of the South-Southwest to ramp up temperatures.

In fact, we will be flirting with records in some areas between Broward and Miami-Dade.

Along and ahead of the front we are not expecting moisture, but once it arrives on Wednesday, it will be nice with near average temperatures returning (highs near 80 and lows in the mid to upper 60’s). Expect a seasonal finish to the week.

Windy Day & Back to Mild https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/windy-day-back-to-mild/ Sat, 29 Nov 2025 10:34:28 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1646477 South Florida we had a quick cooldown and now it is over. Today will be a mild day and then it gets back to warm. However, with an old front to the South and high pressure building into the mid-Atlantic region, it turns windy to gusty at times. This means rough marine conditions continue through late tonight in the Gulf and early Sunday in the Atlantic side. Also, expect high rip current risk at area beaches.

By tonight, there could be some low-level moisture moving creeping in from the South, so there could be widely scattered showers returning into the area at least through Sunday morning. The rest of the day will feature a mix of sun and clouds and mainly dry conditions. Winds start to die down on Sunday with warmer air taking over.

A front is forecast to reach Northern Florida on Monday, but it won’t receive enough of a push to move down the Peninsula until Wednesday. Therefore, temperatures will remain slightly above average (highs in the low 80’s & lows in the low 70’s) through mid-week. Once the front crosses through, back to seasonal normal temperatures to close out the week. We are not expecting moisture ahead or along the front. It should cross through dry.

Have a wonderful weekend South Florida and make it a safe one!

Quiet Pattern Continues https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/quiet-pattern-continues/ Mon, 17 Nov 2025 10:58:36 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1642575 High pressure is still in charge located in the Gulf and that is providing for a Northerly flow with cool-ish mornings (upper 50’s to low 60’s) and seasonable afternoons (low 80’s).

By Tuesday, the area of high pressure in the Gulf will weaken sliding East helping winds turn from the North to Northeast. This should moderate temperatures gradually to warmer levels.

Models are showing another area of high pressure taking over across the mid-Atlantic states increasing winds out of the East. Therefore, look for temperatures to be slightly (2-3 degrees) above average from Wednesday through the weekend. We will also add just a slim chance of seeing a passing sprinkle on the breeze. No major changes expected anytime soon.

Series of Fronts, Plus Watching Disturbance in the Caribbean https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/series-of-fronts-plus-watching-disturbance-in-the-caribbean/ Tue, 21 Oct 2025 11:08:55 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1633920 A front has stalled nearby and it will leave some moisture in the air for South Florida to see a few spotty showers on the breeze. As we warm up in the afternoon, an inland storm can’t be ruled out. The front should fall apart by tonight as another approaches the Southeast United States.

This next one will likely clear making for nicer and pleasant conditions on Thursday. However, the wind will be increasing out of the Northeast over the next couple of days creating choppy to rough seas. Only a quick-moving shower possible, but the forecast calls for mainly dry weather and seasonable temperatures. Highs in the mid 80’s and lows in the low to mid 70’s.

TROPICS UPDATE AT 7:30AM- It appears that a well-defined center has developed and a tropical storm is expected to form later today over the Central Caribbean Sea. It now has a 100% chance.

Your Storm Team is watching closely a disturbance located in the Caribbean showing signs of organization. NHC has designated it Invest 98L which is an area they want to gather more information on. A Hurricane Hunter mission is set for today to see if they can find a well-defined center of circulation to start initiating advisories. Right now, it is producing tropical storm-force winds up to 45 mph as it moves West at around 13 mph.

Models still don’t have a good handle on intensity and track and that is why it is so important to find the exact center of circulation. For now, the spread in models is showing the uncertainty that exists in the forecast and everyone from Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Cuba and even the Bahamas should be closely monitoring this system.

It is likely going to develop at any moment. Water temperatures now in the Caribbean are the warmest in the Atlantic Basin and this area is in a sweet spot where there is low wind shear. These conditions make tropical development possible.

Shower Chance Today, Plus Watching Area in Caribbean https://wsvn.com/uncategorized/shower-chance-today-plus-watching-area-in-caribbean/ Mon, 20 Oct 2025 12:39:29 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1633615 The new week starts with some changes as a front approaches from the North. It will be slowly move down the Florida Peninsula and produce a few showers. Some sea breeze storms possible favoring inland locations.

Keep in mind fronts will not completely clear South Florida just yet, but at least will bring more comfortable air. There will be a few showers possible through Tuesday with as the front fades nearby. By mid to late week, it should be drier with lower humidity and building breeze out of the Northeast as we watch another front.

TODAY IN THE TROPICS

Disturbance in the Eastern Caribbean is forecast to slow down while moving West. It is likely going to form into a Tropical Depression or Storm (Melissa) over the next few days. Conditions gradually improving across the Windward & Leeward Islands.

This disturbance (INVEST 98l) is forecast to continue moving West at 15-20mph and likely to slow down. This is when development will happen. Half of the models show it continuing to move West. The other half show it lifting North and impacting Hispaniola later this week. If disturbance develops quickly in the Central Caribbean, it will make an early Northward turn. If it develops slower, it gets stronger and makes late turn. Models still don’t have a good handle on what will happen. Stay tuned to your Storm Team.

Pleasant Day https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/pleasant-day-2/ Wed, 15 Oct 2025 11:03:40 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1632526 A pretty pleasant day is ahead with high pressure in charge across the Southeast U.S. Winds are set to increase out of the Northeast and get gusty between Thursday and Friday as another weak front approaches. This could actually drive in some additional moisture. There is a chance of seeing coastal shower in the forecast. The weekend should be nice and breezy with a mainly dry conditions.

In the tropics we only have Tropical Storm Lorenzo and it is barely holding on. The National Hurricane Center is stating that it should fall apart in the middle of the Atlantic by Thursday.

Mild and Breezy https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/mild-and-breezy/ Tue, 14 Oct 2025 12:40:18 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1632193 South Florida will remain mild and breezy through the middle of the week as we remain in between fronts. High pressure to the North with a stalled front to the South should maintain breezy and mild conditions around. However, the best chance of seeing a few showers will be around the Florida Keys today due to the front nearby.

Today in the Tropics

Trouble in the Tropics https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/trouble-in-the-tropics-4/ Thu, 25 Sep 2025 12:33:09 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1621042 South Florida look for plenty of sun to start through the weekend with a chance of seeing some storms developing with the daytime heat. By Sunday, the breeze along the coast will be building and it should be breezy and steamy through the middle of the week. Rain chances could go down even more for Monday, but our weather will depend on what happens with a disturbance in the tropics now designated Invest 94L.

Invest 94L is currently producing heavy rains and gusty winds up to 30 mph around portions of the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Even Western Puerto Rico still experiencing some rain.

If it survives the mountainous terrain in the Dominican Republic, it will enter an area favorable for development in the Southwestern Atlantic. The National Hurricane Center is giving it a 90% chance to form into a Tropical Depression or Storm (Imelda?) when it moves into the Central or Northwestern Bahamas over the weekend. Then a turn to the North should happen. Timing that turn is key and the pattern is very complicated as of the moment.

Models are showing a North turn should take place between Sunday and Monday. However, timing the turn will determine if this system will impact directly the United States. It will depend on a front, high pressure, low pressure and the jet stream moving into the Eastern United States. For now, from Florida through the Carolinas should be monitoring Invest 94L.

Also, another player that could impact Invest 94L is Humberto. Normally systems this close could dance around each other or the stronger one absorb the other. However, models don’t seem to be picking up on this solution. Humberto is forecast to strengthen into a major hurricane in the coming days. For now, there are no coastal watches and warnings in effect and it will pass well to the North of the Leeward Islands through the weekend.

Hurricane Gabrielle is moving rapidly Eastward and should bring hurricane conditions to the Azores tonight or early Friday.

Keep it tuned to your Storm Team for the latest.

An Active Atlantic Basin https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/an-active-atlantic-basin/ Wed, 24 Sep 2025 12:40:02 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1620584 Major Hurricane Gabrielle is going to approach the Azores as a weaker hurricane during the day on Thursday. A Hurricane Warning has been issued for all of the Azores.

Invest 94L is producing a large area of rain and gusty winds across the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The rains should spread into the Dominican Republic by tonight. As it slows down and enters the Southwestern Atlantic, it could form near the Bahamas.

Invest 93L is showing signs of organization. A Tropical Depression could form later today or Thursday. It will move well North of the islands. Bermuda should monitor closely.

Model guidance does show both of these disturbances developing. However, we will watch in more depth Invest 94 L. Since it has not formed, it is too soon to tell whether it will directly impact the United States.

Ripe for Rain, Plus King Tides are back! https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/ripe-for-rain-plus-king-tides-are-back/ Mon, 08 Sep 2025 12:43:32 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1612886 Another front is forecast to stall over Florida with the same setup as last week. This will leave the air ripe for rain. Therefore, look for early sunshine and afternoon clouds with a good chance of seeing rain and storms.

Long range models showing the front sagging South enough into the weekend, that it could bring in some drier air from the North to bring down rain chances.

Typical rain chances for rainy season will be in place through most of the week with fewer storms expected this weekend.

Unsettled Stretch Continues https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/unsettled-stretch-continues/ Fri, 05 Sep 2025 11:53:58 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1609971 South Florida we are surrounded by moisture with a stalled front to our North and two lows. This is leaving our pattern unsettled for several more days.

Best chance of seeing rain in the morning is for the Florida Keys and for mainland South Florida heading into the afternoon.

Today in the Tropics

We are monitoring a disturbance in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean and it has a high chance to form into a Tropical Depression mostly likely over the weekend.

Right now, there is Saharan Dust impacting it from the North and West, but that will lessen in the days ahead.

There is plenty of warm water ahead in the 80’s that should help support the development of a Tropical Depression or Storm. Computer models are showing that it should be near the Lesser Antilles by the middle part of next week. There is plenty of time to watch and nothing has developed yet.

Today in the Tropics

There is a tropical wave located in the Eastern Atlantic that is entering an environment favorable for growth. The National Hurricane Center has increased the odds of forming to a 70%. Right now, it is about 7 from nearing the Lesser Antilles and a lot of things can change once it forms.

This will draw up a pool of moisture into the region leaving the air ripe for rain. Therefore, look for anytime rain and storms especially midday with the threat for isolated strong storms and flooding increasing across South Florida. As a result, temperatures will be near-normal with limited sunshine through Labor Day.

Today in the Tropics

The National Hurricane Center has issued the last advisory on Fernand since it has lost tropical characteristics in the Northern Atlantic and now we turn our attention to a wave currently over Africa. It is forecast to emerge into the Eastern Atlantic over the weekend with some slow development possible near or to the South of the Cape Verde Islands.

Have a wonderful day South Florida and make it a safe one!

Heat Advisory- 11am to 6pm for Miami-Dade & Broward https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/heat-advisory-11am-to-6pm-for-miami-dade-broward/ Wed, 27 Aug 2025 12:04:57 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1606475 Heat Advisory is in effect from 11am to 6pm today for Miami-Dade & Broward Counties. Feels like temps. will exceed 105 degrees for a few hours. Showers & storms are expected to stay inland until late in the day, allowing for extra heating & less relief from the heat today.

In the days ahead the pattern will get wetter as a front stalls nearby and we get a pull of moisture moving in from the tropics. This will make for unsettled times.

Computer models are letting us know that it will be wet as we could received better than 2 inches across parts of South Florida through Labor Day. The threat for heavy rainfall leading to street flooding is increasing.

Rain chances will be above normal from Saturday and through a good portion of next week.

We can use the rain since certain parts of South Florida are hovering between moderate to extreme drought status. However, it does look like in the days ahead we will get beneficial rains.

Have a wonderful day South Florida and make it a safe one!

Pop-Up Storms Once Again https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/pop-up-storms-once-again/ Mon, 25 Aug 2025 10:52:01 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1605325 The forecast looks not as wet for Tuesday, but as another front settles across the Southeast United States, deeper moisture with Southwest winds will be in place once again. Models calling for typical rainy season chances through the upcoming long weekend. Unfortunately activity will move from West to East, making it seem wetter overall.

This front stalling to our North will bring the first taste of Fall for parts of the Northeast. Forecast lows will be in the 50’s to start Saturday.

Today in the Tropics

  1. 1. Tropical Storm Fernand is forecast to weaken by tonight. It will likely lose tropical characteristics by Wednesday over the waters of the subtropical Central Atlantic.
  2. 2. Shower activity has decreased with INVEST 99L. It is producing squally weather across the Lesser Antilles. It will move into less favorable conditions for development in the Caribbean.

Air Quality Concerns, Plus Tracking The Tropics https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/air-quality-concerns-plus-tracking-the-tropics/ Thu, 21 Aug 2025 12:47:24 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1604140 Due to the smoke from brush fire in West Broward, the air quality is moderate to unhealthy for some. Best thing to do is stay indoors with the A/C and if you go outside, wear a mask.

Forecast calls for the wind today to switch out of the West-Southwest, so the smoke will be confined mainly in Broward and into Southern Palm Beach. Southwest winds will continue through the weekend and we are hoping for rain to help the situation. Right now, typical rain chances (50-60%) of some daily afternoon showers and storms will be in the forecast.

Today in the Tropics

Hurricane Erin will move over the western Atlantic between the U.S. East coast and Bermuda through early Friday, and then pass South of Atlantic Canada Friday and Saturday. Coastal flooding continues along portions of North Carolina and mid-Atlantic coasts due to Erin. Gradual weakening is forecast during the next couple of days.

As for the rest of the tropics, we are watching three areas for development:

  1. -Tropical wave a few hundred miles East of the Leeward Islands has changed little in organization. It has a high chance to form during the next 7 days.
  2. -Conditions still seem favorable for some development of INVEST 99L located well to the Southwest of the Cape Verde Islands as it moves to the West at around 15 mph.
  3. -Small low pressure about 1200 miles Southwest of the Azores has a low chance to develop as it moves to the East in the Atlantic.

Smoky Skies, Heat, & Storms For South Florida, Plus Tracking Erin https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/smoky-skies-heat-storms-for-south-florida-plus-tracking-erin/ Wed, 20 Aug 2025 12:47:59 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1603635 South Florida you may have noticed a haze in the sky (almost looking cloudy) and that is due to a fire located in West Broward called the Mile Marker 39 fire. The wind that is going to heat conditions up today is dragging the smoke towards metro and coastal areas of Broward and Miami-Dade. It has dropped visibility by Indian Trace along the Alligator Alley to less than 3 miles. If you do suffer from respiratory issues or allergies, make sure to take the proper precautions and if you can, limit your outdoor exposure.

The heat will also be a big story for South Florida today as temperatures are forecast to climb into the mid and upper 90’s. Some areas will definitely come close to records.

Temperatures will feel more like 105 to 110 degrees for two or more hours this afternoon and that can lead to heat related illnesses. That is why the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory. It starts at 11am and runs through 7pm for Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade.

Also, a few storms will be possible heading into early to mid afternoon and because of the wind flow out of the West-Northwest, activity will push towards the East metro areas.

Today in the Tropics

The pressure has dropped a little with Erin and weather conditions are expected to deteriorate along the coast of North Carolina by this evening. A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued North of Duck, NC to the North Carolina/Virginia border.

Erin is increasing swells today through late week. This will result in a high rip current threat for the Atlantic beaches and possible high surf. Beachgoers are cautioned against swimming along the U.S. East coast beaches this week.

Typical Summer Day in South Florida, Plus Tracking Major Hurricane Erin https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/typical-summer-day-in-south-florida-plus-tracking-major-hurricane-erin/ Mon, 18 Aug 2025 12:47:02 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1602839 South Florida look for a typical Summer day with tons of sunshine and highs climbing into the low 90’s, but feeling like the low 100’s. Also, today winds will be out of the Northeast and it should push sea breeze showers and storms well inland, so most areas will be dry. By tomorrow, winds turn out of the Northwest as Erin (well away) lifts North. This should help push activity towards metro and coastal communities making conditions wetter.

Swells generated by Hurricane Erin will impact the Bahamas, Bermuda, the East Coast of the U.S. during the next few days. Forecast calls for life-threatening surf and rip currents.

Hurricane Erin is large and powerful with pressure dropping from 945mb to 933mb. A sign that it is strengthening. It is located just to the East of the Southeast Bahamas.

Erin is expected to pass to the east of the Southeastern Bahamas today and move between Bermuda and the East coast of the United States by the middle of the week. Life-threatening surf and rip currents likely across the U.S. Eastern Seaboard this week.

Tropical Storm-force winds extend 230 miles out from the center. Erin right now is producing wind gusts over 39 mph.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the Central Bahamas and a Tropical Storm Warning in effect for the Southeast Bahamas, including the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Summer Heat & Storms, Plus Distant Erin https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/summer-heat-storms-plus-distant-erin/ Thu, 14 Aug 2025 12:34:46 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1601828 The forecast is calling for a warm and muggy start with mostly dry conditions. There is only a small chance of seeing an isolated shower. By the afternoon between 2-3pm, temperatures will climb into the low 90’s and feel like the 100’s. An inland storm possible.

Today in the Tropics

Tropical Storm Erin continues moving Westward and forecast to become the first hurricane of the season by Friday.

Erin will likely become a major hurricane on Sunday as it moves at a slower pace to the West-Northwest. On the forecast track, the center of Erin is expected to move near or just North of the Northern Leeward Islands over the weekend.

Erin will find a gap between two areas of high pressure that will allow it turn Northward. Model guidance is insisting this will happen, but how fast that happens is key whether or not Erin gets closer the East coast of the United States. A lot of things can change and that is why we will continue to monitor it closely. Right now, the worry meter for South Florida remains low.

Erin will rapidly intensify as it gets closer to the islands. However, the magnitude of the impacts are still unknown since it is still far away.

Broad low pressure has emerged into the Bay of Campeche. It has small window to organize before it moves onshore on Friday between Northeastern Mexico and Southern Texas. Heavy rains to spread across these areas.

Summer Sizzle, Plus Tracking Erin https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/summer-sizzle-plus-tracking-erin/ Wed, 13 Aug 2025 12:53:18 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1601508 Our forecast here is South Florida is dominated by high pressure keeping typical Summer heat around with highs in the low 90’s and feeling more like the low 100’s. As far as rain chances are concerned, below average chances are expected to continue through the weekend.

Today in the Tropics

There were three areas and now we are down to two.

-Tropical Wave located in the Caribbean has a low chance to form once it emerges into the Bay of Campeche in the Gulf.

-Tropical Storm Erin is expected to slow down and move to the West-Northwest beginning Thursday night and through the weekend. On the forecast track, the center is likely to move near or just North of the Northern Leeward Islands over the weekend. Could be a major storm now by Saturday.

The magnitude of impacts across the islands is still not known. However, Erin could move close enough to the Northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico late Saturday into Sunday to produce squally weather, stronger winds & dangerous surf.

We know that a turn to the North will happen as a gap will open up between two areas of high pressure. Timing the turn will be crucial in terms of how close it gets to the East coast of the United States. Right now, we know it will be running into near record water temperatures once it reaches the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean.

Remains Very Hot With A Shower Chance https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/remains-very-hot-with-a-shower-chance/ Tue, 29 Jul 2025 13:09:01 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1597331 The layer of Saharan Dust that was over the region is now in the Gulf and there is some low-level moisture moving in. However, high pressure will be in control from the Atlantic providing for a South-Southeast wind. This will help activity that develops with the daytime heat to slowly push inland. We are not looking at impressive rain chances, they are still below average for this time of year.

Temperatures are going to be hot in the low 90’s, but feel like the triple digits each day. Although we won’t meet advisory criteria, we should everything possible to stay cool.

Hot, Hazy & Humid Conditions Hold https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/hot-hazy-humid-conditions-hold/ Sun, 27 Jul 2025 13:51:28 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1596740 High pressure continues to be in charge of our weather pattern with a layer of Saharan Dust around. This is keeping the dry air in place and trapping the steam. Temperatures today will be a touch hotter with highs in the low to mid 90’s. When you combine the high humidity, it will feel like the low to mid 100’s. It will not be the kind of heat to meet advisory criteria, but still dangerously hot. Therefore, make sure to drink plenty of water, dress lightly and take frequent breaks in the shade, to avoid heat related illnesses.

The layer of Saharan Dust will start to thin out on Monday and this will help along a building breeze out of the Northeast to help moisture levels rise. Therefore, more of a typical Summer pattern kicks in with a passing shower possible in the mornings, followed by afternoon isolated storms favoring inland areas. Not expecting a lot of activity, but the chance goes up to a 30% on Tuesday.

Today in the Tropics

It is very quiet and development is not expected in the next 7 days.

Soggy Stretch Continues https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/soggy-stretch-continues/ Tue, 15 Jul 2025 13:52:24 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1592628 The soggy stretch continues with showers and storms forecast to develop earlier today. It will not be as bad, but some of the downpours could cause areas of street flooding as we monitor an area of low pressure to the East of Florida.

Low pressure (Invest 93L) East of Florida remains disorganized. It will cross Florida tonight through Wednesday morning and emerge into the Northeastern Gulf where it will have a medium chance to form. A Hurricane Hunter mission is set for today.

INVEST 93 L will be steered West over Florida tonight into Wednesday morning. Once in Northeastern Gulf, conditions will be somewhat favorable for gradual development before moving onshore across the Northern Gulf coast states (Panhandle to Louisiana) late Thursday/early Friday.

It will definitely leave the unsettled with a high rain chance in the forecast.

The weather today will be very active especially after 4pm. Therefore, look for pockets of heavy rain to form and become widespread through rush hour. This is when the threat for flooding increases across South Florida and into the upper Florida Keys.

SPC has placed a good portion of Florida under a marginal risk of seeing storms capable of producing heavy rainfall leading to flooding, damaging winds and frequent lightning.

This disturbance/low pressure producing disorganized showers and storms is being monitored by The National Hurricane Center. It is forecast to move Westward across Florida & into the Northeastern Gulf by late Tuesday. Some development possible by the later part of this week. They are giving it a low chance to form during the next 7 days as it moves away from Florida.

Turning Much Wetter Starting Monday https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/turning-much-wetter-starting-monday/ Sun, 13 Jul 2025 01:06:10 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1591969 It looks like it will be turning much wetter early to mid week and it has to do with a disturbance forecast to move over Florida Monday and Tuesday from the Northwestern Atlantic waters.

Both the GFS and EURO are in agreement that a low pressure area will form off the Southeast coast of the U.S. This low is going to move eventually into the Gulf and as this happens, there will be a considerable uptick in moisture levels for the Florida peninsula.

Our in-house model is showing Monday starting off quiet with a good amount of sunshine, but once the afternoon rolls around, it could be a washout with numerous downpours forming across South Florida.

We are looking at a 3 to 5 inch range and more possible depending on where the downpours form and how long they stick around. Right now, WPC is placing us on a level 2 of 4 (slight risk) of seeing excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding.

Will this area develop into our next tropical system? It is too soon to say, but NHC is giving it a low chance to form once it reaches the Northeastern Gulf and moving away from Florida during the next 7 days.

This will ramp up rain chances most likely starting Thursday and through the weekend. Scattered to numerous showers and storms possible.

Typical chances return late week with scattered to numerous storms possible in the afternoons.

Today in the Tropics

Low pressure 600 mi. East of Bermuda still has a high chance to form in the next 48 hours. If showers & storms increase around the center, a short-lived depression or storm could be classified in the Atlantic later today. It is no threat to land.

Typical Pattern Returns https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/typical-pattern-returns/ Mon, 09 Jun 2025 13:07:37 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1581492 South Florida another fairly dry is expected with moisture levels gradually rising due to the Saharan Dust thinning out. Look for sea breeze storms to push well inland into Southwest Florida.

Tuesday into Wednesday more activity is expected especially in the afternoons with the rain chance going up. However, if models are right, the chances go down for the weekend with another batch of Saharan Dust moving in.

Today in the Tropics

There is one wave in the Atlantic Basin surrounded with dry air and Saharan Dust keeping it in check. Development not expected.

Wet Pattern Ahead https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/wet-pattern-ahead-2/ Mon, 02 Jun 2025 12:06:38 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1579277 A stalled front will keep rain chances elevated as tropical moisture continues to get pumped across the region. This is will make for a wet pattern ahead. Therefore, heavy rainfall in rounds possible through Tuesday and flooding is likely in some areas.

Models calling between 3 to 5 inches of rain with isolated higher amounts possible.

The first significant plume of Saharan Dust this season is set to arrive mid to late week and that should knock rain chances down a little. However, it will not be completely dry. Scattered showers and storms still possible, but favoring inland locations as an onshore flow returns.

Today in the Tropics

The 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season started yesterday and we are not following any areas for developed at this time.

Typically in the month of June, tropical development is more likely in the Western Caribbean, Gulf and off the Southeast coast of the U.S. in the Western Atlantic. These are considered hotspot formation areas. By August, we see development mainly from the waves that move off the coast of Africa.

‘It’s burning hot out here’: Sweltering weekend temps reach the 90s in Miami; experts share tips to keep cool https://wsvn.com/news/local/miami-dade/its-burning-hot-out-here-sweltering-weekend-temps-reach-the-90s-in-miami-experts-share-tips-to-keep-cool/ Sat, 17 May 2025 22:47:28 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1574726 South Florida is sizzling—and it’s not even summer yet.

Meteorologists said the hot and humid weather is just a glimpse at what’s to come in just a few weeks.

The region has been feeling the heat since last Wednesday, when the first 90-degree reading was recorded.

The trend continued Saturday, with 91 degrees in Miami, three degrees shy of the 2024 record of 94. Fort Lauderdale reported 89 degrees, and Key West reported 86.

Temperatures came down to the mid-80s late Saturday afternoon, but the heat index made it feel even hotter, especially in Hialeah, where the “feels like” temperature hit 98 degrees, and West Kendall, where it hit 99 degrees.

All day long, beachgoers off Ocean Drive took advantage of the clear skies to hit the sand. They immediately felt the sweltering temperatures.

“It’s burning. It’s burning hot out here,” said beachgoer Fareen Pourmoussaviaen. “I’d say it’s probably like 90 degrees out here.”

While millions across parts of the nation deal with severe weather threats, thanks to a dome of high pressure parked in place, that same system is keeping things scorching hot here in South Florida.

Monday morning, on South Beach, Amy Cooper, a visitor from the United Kingdom, got an early start to try and beat the heat.

“I think the morning’s definitely the best time to go out,” she said. “Yeah, you want to go out midday, but if you can bear it.”

Joe Findaro was also out early Monday morning with his pets, Agatha and Martha, ahead of the afternoon warmth.

“You stay cool by going out before sunrise,” he said. “You swim every everyday in the temperature-controlled pool at the Flamingo Park, and you take your dogs for a walk when the sun’s not out.”

On South Beach, the sun was beaming all day long.

“Make sure you put on your sunscreen because, you know, like me, I burn really easily. I’m a little bit sunburnt already,” said Pourmoussaviaen.

“It’s very hot; my mom got heavily sunburned,” said Ben Kazkakob, another beachgoer. “You should wear sunscreen.”

Like Pourmoussaviaen, many beachgoers tried to stay cool by taking a splash.

“I’m going to jump in, in a couple of minutes, right now,” he said.

The temperatures are expected to reach the 90s all weekend long.

Medical experts say extreme heat can be dangerous, which is why it’s important to stay hydrated.

“Absolutely. I love staying hydrated,” said a beachgoer as she took a sip while sitting under an umbrella.

“There are definitely a lot of places that you can get a frozen drink,” said Amy. “Definitely keep hydrated, but I think the fruity drinks are best.”

Experts advise those who are out in the sun, especially on the beach, to ensure they are under some shade.

“I had to set this up. I’m literally going to get a sunburn,” said another beachgoer who’s sitting under an umbrella. “I don’t know; something’s going to happen.”

“Nice and cool, putting on sunblock, and going in and out of the water and staying under the shade—great,” said a friend sitting next to him.

North of the county line, beachgoers packed Fort Lauderdale Beach.

Laura said that even though she’s melting in the sun, she is prepared.

“Actually, we always wear light-colored clothing and try to stay out of the sun, and when we’re out in the sun, we wear a heavy sunblock,” she said.

If cooling off in the Atlantic is not how you prefer to stay cool, it’s best to just stay indoors.

“Go watch a movie at the Regal Theaters for three hours,” said Joe. “Eat popcorn and have ice water if they’re not used to being outdoors.”

Meteorologists said the high temperatures are expected to increase later in the week, with triple-digit indexes expected by Wednesday and Thursday.

Miami-Dade has an interactive tool where residents can find cooling sites near them. To find your nearest site, click here.

Quiet For Now… https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/quiet-for-now-3/ Thu, 08 May 2025 13:14:52 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1571794 South Florida expect another warm and quiet day with dry air filtering in. The deepest moisture for rain has shifted North with a weak front. Therefore, look for mostly dry conditions and highs in the mid to upper 80’s.

The pattern starts to gradually change over the weekend with another upper-level low (disturbance high in the sky) and front that will be drawing a plume of moisture from the tropics. Right now, it will likely be dry for Mother’s Day with a chance of seeing a few inland sea breeze driven storms in the afternoon.

By early next week, the pattern becomes increasingly unsettled with times of clouds and bigger downpours starting Monday. Models are showing a good amount of rain possible through Tuesday with rain chances going down mid-week.

Fading Front Brings A Shower Chance https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/fading-front-brings-a-shower-chance/ Tue, 29 Apr 2025 11:15:31 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1568621 South Florida we remain in a drought and rain has been hard to come by. However, today there is a chance of seeing isolated to scattered showers mid-morning through the afternoon with a front that will gradually fade moving through the region.

Another area of high pressure is forecast to gain control of our weather pattern by tomorrow and that will mean winds get gusty with mainly dry conditions persisting all week long. Temperatures are expected to remain steady through the weekend.

As winds turn gusty at times, expect hazardous seas with advisories for both swimmers and boaters. Right now, there is a high rip current risk along the East coast and an a Small Craft Exercise Caution for boaters in the Florida Keys.

Have a wonderful day South Florida and make it a safe one!

Some Showers Coming Soon https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/some-showers-coming-soon/ Mon, 28 Apr 2025 13:46:22 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1568273 South Florida the weekend was sunny, mainly dry and warm and the start of the week is featuring more of the same. However, there will be some changes for Tuesday as a weak front moves in. This front will actually bring us the best chance out of the entire week to see some useful showers.

Look for these showers to be isolated to scattered happening between 8am to 1pm and then drier air filters in once again.

We will sound like a broken record with a similar patter to play out the remainder of the week. Each day will feature an onshore wind with mostly dry conditions and near average temperatures.

Waiting for Rain to Return https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/waiting-for-rain-to-return/ Wed, 23 Apr 2025 13:07:25 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1566932 The forecast calls for distant high pressure to remain in control helping for dry air to filter into the region.

However, heading into tomorrow we will be following a bank of moisture located near Puerto Rico that will be moving into the Bahamas. As winds are set to increase and become gusty once again, we could see a few isolated showers sneak into Southern areas like the Florida Keys and Straits.

By the weekend, drier air flows into South Florida making for sunny and warmer conditions. High temperatures will be above average with highs in the upper 80’s on Sunday.

Look for a slightly better chance of seeing some Spring showers tomorrow, but especially around Southern areas. Once Friday rolls around, the chance for rain goes down again.

Have a wonderful day South Florida and make it a safe one!

Cloudy & Cool with Areas of Rain https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/cloudy-cool-with-areas-of-rain/ Mon, 20 Jan 2025 12:15:08 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1537824 A cold front crossed through late Sunday and staying near by. However, it is leaving moisture behind along with cool conditions. In fact, if clouds do not break, temperatures will remain stuck in the upper 60’s all day long!

Tomorrow expect the clouds to hold, but most of the rain to be confined North of Alligator Alley, so fewer showers will likely be around.

When will the clouds and rain clear? It seems like rain chances will remain in the forecast for a good portion of the week an area of low pressure forms and deepens in the Northern Gulf of Mexico. This will create headaches across the Gulf coast states producing a line of freezing rain and snow through Northern Florida into early Wednesday.

This system will receive enough of a push to clear Wednesday and bringing drier air on Thursday.

By Thursday, a strong push of potentially polar air arrives for the weekend!

Have a wonderful week South Florida and make it a safe one!

Winter Chill in South Florida https://wsvn.com/weather-blog/winter-chill-in-south-florida/ Tue, 07 Jan 2025 13:35:16 +0000 https://wsvn.com/?p=1523971 A cold front moved through this morning across South Florida and winds have increased out of the Northwest. This has helped temperature drastically drop between 3am to 7am. We went from the upper 60’s to mid to upper 50’s!

The day will remain on the chilly side with highs struggling to get out of the low to mid 60’s.

Temperatures overnight will likely be the coldest so far of the season with the low 50’s along the coast and a lot of locations out west will be in the 40’s. The Florida Keys should be in the widespread 50’s.

The Winter chill by South Florida standards will last a few days and we simply not used to it, so here are some cold weather safety tips:

Have a wonderful day South Florida and stay warm!
